DR. SHON BLACK

Dr. Shon Black is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Breast and Melanoma Surgical Oncology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. She earned her medical degree from The University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, completed general surgery residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill and the breast surgical oncology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston in 2006. She recently joined Mayo Clinic after practicing in Houston, TX at Houston Methodist and MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Black serves as the Associate Chair for EID and Well-Being in the Department of Surgery and the DEIA liaison for the Breast Disease Working Group in the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Her research interest includes improving breast cancer disparities, de-escalating breast cancer surgery, and improving physician well-being. She has served on the board of directors and as a medical advisor for several nonprofit breast cancer organizations and worked internationally with ASCO International, Komen International, and the Africa’s First Ladies Conference on Cancer. Dr. Black takes great pride in helping improve breast cancer care and education both locally and abroad.
